The following persons are covered by the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP):

OHIP Coverage for Eye Exams

Children (ages 0 – 19 years old)
One full eye examination covered yearly for this age group. Additionally, minor examinations for emergencies are included in the coverage such as eye infections, eye injuries, headaches, etc.

Adults (ages 20 – 64 years old)
Patients with Diabetes, Cataracts, Glaucoma, Retinal disease, Corneal disease, Amblyopia, Strabismus, or visual field loss are OHIP covered for an eye examination once per year. This includes follow-up visits as deemed necessary by the optometrist.

Seniors (ages 65 years old and up)
One full eye examination is OHIP covered yearly for this age group. This also includes minor exams for emergencies such as eye infections, eye injuries, headaches, etc.
